COLLEGE BASKETBALL VETS JERRY TARKANIAN AND DAVE SIMS JUMP INTO 'THE SHARK TANK'
Two-hour Weekly Show To Air Fridays, 1pm-3pm
NEW YORK – February 2, 2005 - SIRIUS Satellite Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) today announced that basketball coaching legend Jerry Tarkanian and sports announcer Dave Sims have been paired to host The Shark Tank , a weekly college basketball call-in talk show to be aired exclusively on SIRIUS Satellite Radio.
The Shark Tank is all about college basketball: the hottest players... the winning teams … the secrets behind the success stories. Sims – who sets the tone for the show – and Tarkanian, who never holds back on his often controversial opinions, provide an explosive and entertaining combination. It will air every Friday through April between 1pm-3pm ET on SIRIUS Sports Action, channel 123.
"Dave Sims and Jerry Tarkanian will provide thoughtful and intelligent insight on the college hoops scene," said Jay Clark, SIRIUS' Executive Vice President of Programming. "Nobody knows the sport like these two authorities on the game, and SIRIUS subscribers will have the opportunity to speak directly with them each Friday."
Tarkanian said: "After 40 years of having broadcasters around the country breaking down everything that I did as a head coach, I'm very happy to now be the guy behind the microphone."
"There is no better authority on college basketball than Jerry Tarkanian, and I'm honored to join him every week" said Sims.
Tarkanian ranks among America's top college basketball coaches. His lifetime .813 winning percentage is fourth-best all-time record and he is one of just 12 college coaches to have put up more than 700 victories. Tarkanian's teams have gone to the NCAA Men's Division I Tournament 18 times during his career, reaching the Final Four four times and winning the NCAA Championship in 1990 at the University of Las Vegas. He retired in 2002 after a seven-year career as coach of Fresno State University.
Sims is well-known around the country as a respected sports broadcaster. He is co-host of Westwood One's Sports Illustrated Monday Night Live and play-by-play announcer for Westwood One's weekly NFL football broadcasts and college basketball broadcasts. For the past four seasons he has served as courtside host for the NCAA Men's National Championship.
SIRIUS College Sports Radio now has broadcasting relationships with more than 120 Division I schools across the country – including top-ranked Kansas, Oklahoma State and Syracuse – and enables SIRIUS subscribers to hear the most college basketball games on satellite radio, including 240 broadcasts in January alone.
SIRIUS will also be the only radio service to carry live play-by-play coverage of every NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship game, beginning March 15. All games from every round will be offered to SIRIUS subscribers in their entirety, with no blackouts and at no extra charge over the basic monthly subscription price of $12.95.
SIRIUS Satellite Radio features the most comprehensive play-by-play and sports talk coverage on satellite radio, including the NFL, NBA, NHL, Barclay's English Premier League Soccer and the SIRIUS College Sports Radio package.
SIRIUS radios for the car and home are available at retailers nationwide. More information: www.sirius.com.
